the beginning of the end

ok so WACE exams start today which are my final exams of high school, i've already done my 3 practical exams so now i just have the written to go. i have 5 exams left spread out over 22 days, i also have a 10 day break in the middle which is gooood :)
i am so far beyond nervous, i've studied everything i've learnt this year for drama and made it all into 21 palm cards. those 21 palm cards seem like nothing but right now they are my life and if something happens to them i possibly may just crack and fall apart.
13 years at the same school has all led to these 5 exams. i know that when i'm old and wrinkled these exams will mean absolutely nothing but right now they seem like the biggest thing in my life.
i'm just excited to get started because after the first exam the others will fly by!
i know more than i think i do and i just need to calm down, read the question and write everything that i remember!
fingers crossed for myself...

random facts

i am really bored and also quite sick so i have decided to do some quick blogging that i always find really interesting :) so here are 5 random facts about me...

1. i love performing more than anything in the world! yes i was one of those children that got fake tanned and had makeup slapped on their face to get on stage and dance. my mum was definitely not a pushy stage mother like so many people assume, she has 2 left feet and can't even clap in time with music so she was not the one who decided i would be doing ballet...that was me! i have loved every minute of it and 2010 is my 13th year of doing tap, jazz and ballet!

2. i was held back a year for school. i have a really late birthday (29th december) and so my mum decided that i was not going to school when i was meant to and kept me home for an extra year. so i am one of the oldest in my year group which means i had my license all the way through year 12 and i will be able to legally buy alcohol at the end of the year!!

3. i am obsessed with my dog! my dog is a labrador retriever called harry or haz or he has gained harold with old age. he is 12 which is old for a lab but he still bounds around like an idiot half the time and steals all my things the other half. i got haz when i was 5 and we had another labrador called lucy who was 2 years older. she got diabetes and when we were on holiday in 2008 she got really sick and died :( but harry is the cutest thing in the world to me and i love him!! he is allowed everywhere in the house and he especially loves sleeping on my bed and the bathroom mat haha.

4. i love old people! they are the cutest people in the world and i always seem to cry when something bad happens to an old person. i can't watch movies where an old person's husband or wife dies and i can't watch old people cry. (i cried for the first half an hour of the movie harry brown because michael caine's wife died and i could not deal with it!)

5. i am allergic to one of the best things in the world! i am allergic to honey...and i love it! honey crackles are one of the best things in the world and i love honey on crumpets and honey in my yoghurt BUT it makes my throat get really itchy and then i need ventolin etc and it's not really worth it. organic honey makes me have less of a reaction but i still feel like shoving my hand in my mouth and itching my throat! i am also seriously allergic to cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and birds. i recently had a serious reaction where i thought i was going to die. my friend's rabbit was inside and it was losing heaps of fur and then my laugh started changing and my voice became really quiet and high pitched then i couldn't breathe very easily and had to sit in a cold shower to cool off and make my neck and throat stop swelling...it was really scary haha.

so yeah those are 5 random facts about me that i just thought of randomly :)

top 5

i was looking through my itunes today and was wondering what songs i have played the most in the 2 years i have had this laptop so they are...

5th (106 plays): possibility by lykke li...this is the song from new moon where edward just left bella and she is depressed and it is such a gooooood sooong!!

4th (111 plays): tie between bad romance by lady gaga...who doesn't love this song?! it is definitely gaga's best ever and it never gets old, it's always the song that makes me sing alone in my car haha...and fader by the temper trap :) love this song!

3rd (162 plays): this is a tie between skinny love by bon iver which is also a slow song but really good...and waka waka (this time for africa) by shakira, this song was good for a short while then i got very tired of it, i also did it for a dance so it doesn't really count...

2nd (286 plays) you've got the love by florence + the machine. this has to be my favourite song of early 2010! i played this on repeat for about 4 months straight...i know i love a song where i have seriously over played it but still love listening to it

and my number one favourite/most listened to song in my itunes with 456 plays is...
sweet disposition by the temper trap. this is my favourite band and i love the whole album. i have had this album for over a year now and it never gets old, i love listening to it when i just want to chill out because it's such easy listening music and the lyrics are amazing!!! i will never get tired of sweet disposition...ever!

spring favourites

it is coming towards the last month of spring and i have some favourites that i have been loving...

1. maxi dresses
i feel like a maxi dress is my saviour when i have nothing to wear to something that is not too casual, not too formal. a maxi dress can be dressed up or down depending on the fabric and the accessories. i own 2 maxi dresses both in a chiffon style silk, one in red and one in white. i tend to wear them to brunches, get togethers or dinners...i love them!

2. bright lips
i LOVE bright lips, i have bought so many lipsticks in coral and pink this year...it's such a fun look and can really make you stand out in a plain outfit. always keep bright lips paired with a neutral eye (i like winged eyeliner...)

3. red lips
i think red lips are great all year round but i have been wearing them especially this spring (maybe because of all the birthday get togethers i have been to). i enjoy wearing a red lip when my outfit is basic or is one plain colour, i feel it makes the outfit more vibrant (again wear with a neutral eye).

4. winged eyeliner
this is my favourite eyeliner look at the moment and i especially love it with a thin line of bright shadow above it...depending on the size of the wing it is good for night and day and it's also really easy and quick to do!

5. coloured smokey eye
i think this is such a good look for spring! sometimes a black smokey eye is a bit harsh, especially if the what you are wearing it to is in the day. so i like to use a colour as the base, for example blue, purple or green are nice. still use darker shades of these colours so it's still a smokey eye but it makes the look less harsh and easier to wear from function to function!

6. wedges
i don't have a pair but i really really really want one! i don't really like the look of wedges with a cork heel but i do love a black wedge (especially in suede, which is what i want!) i think they go nicely with nearly every outfit, from a maxi dress to a cocktail dress to jeans! they are also amazing for when you are standing on grass, which will be a lot in spring, and i kind of wish i wore some wedges to my school ball instead of dying with leg cramps!!

(my image uploader just broke?! but i was going to attach some jeffrey campbell wedges which are AMAZING!!!)

i don't want spring to end! i love the fashion and the way everything looks in spring but then again i am looking forward to summer!

motivation

so tonight is a boring wednesday night and for some reason unknown to me glee hasn't been uploaded onto the net?!?! so i have been listening to some oldies but goodies to get me through the night...
john lennon - power to the people
crowded house - fall at your feet
the pretenders - i'll stand by you
edith piaf - non je ne regrette rien (does this count as french study)
who's that girl - eurythmics
i think old songs are always a good choice when you don't really know what to listen to.

i really want to try to find ANY shop in australia that sells urban decay primer potion because i really need an eye primer and every seems to like this...i would also enjoy the naked palette, but i can always wish!

tv shows

i don't really like to watch tv but i do enjoy watching programs on the internet because there are no ads and it's often more up to date than australian tv.
at the moment i'm rewatching glee season 1 and true blood season 1. they are my 2 favourite shows and i want glee on dvd!!!
i am also really enjoying junior masterchef on tv and offspring which are both on a sunday night in a row!!! such a good night on tv...hence why i actually turn it on haha
i really also want to see easy a which heaps of people have already seen and say it's really gooooood...

venemous villains

so my mac order arrived this morning and i already wore it today to my french oral exam.
i absolutely love these products like they make me get that excited feeling in my stomach like i want to jump up and down!
the mineralize duo eyeshadow are literally so pigmented and such amazing colours! they also come in really cool packaging, i even want to keep the boxes! haha

so i got 'she who dares' mineralize eyeshadow duo which has two tones of the blue and green family with black undertones. it's more like 2/3 blue and 1/3 green but thats alright.

the next thing i got was 'my dark magic' mineralize eyeshadow duo which is basically the same as 'she who dares' but in pink and purple. i like using them both together, with the pink of my lids and the purple in my crease (what i wore to my exam...the examiner even asked me at the end of my exam if my makeup was mac and that it looked really nice)
(same packaging as 'my dark magic')

the coolest thing about these two eyeshadows are that they are really pigmented as well as really glittery..almost like it's a mac eyeshadow with a pigment on top...my most hated thing is when you get something that is bright and then has no pigment on the skin or when something glittery looses it sparkle on the skin, so really impressed by these two!

these are the colours using some fix + spray...amazing!!! they are even more sparkly and glittery in real life and i think my favourite is the green so definitely going to try that as a liner on the weekend!

i also got 'carbon' matte eyeshadow. it came in the collection for limited edition packaging but i just got the regular version because it was $5 cheaper and i'm saving money.
this is a must have for every person who likes to wear smokey eyes! it is perfect for the outer corner and crease and it's nice for a less sparlly version of the smokey eye look...again really pigmented and i love it!

so just a little order this time but one of my most exciting so far!!

nails...

ok so i have had acrylic nails on since september 2009 and i finally took them off today! i really hate the look of long natural nails so i normally kept my acrylics fairly short, to look quite natural. anyway i was getting really fed up with the peeling on the edges and they didn't work very well with my job...
so i got some pure acetone and decided to soak them off...this was a bit of a fail. i am really impatient and i was meant to soak them in acetone for 30-60 minutes to get them off...i didn't. i soaked them for like 15 minutes then peeled/picked/filed them off and ended up ripping my right thumb nail and it bled and still really hurts...i guess it serves me right for not being patient. BUT i am trying to grow them out so i can wear them short and just have nice nails and not pay $35 every fortnight to get my acrylic nails refilled. I think it will take around 2 months for my nails to be completely grown out and back to usual so i can't wait!! they are really weak right now and kind of hurt when i push on them... :(
i have just put 2 coats of OPI top coat on them for a bit of strengthening :)

almost finished

today i have my last exam, which is maths, until i start my final exams in 3 weeks! so instead of studying i have been obsessed with watching the catherine tate show on youtube, especially the disgusted couple...it's such a funny show and i seriously recommend it to anyone!

i am saving up money for melbourne so i have picked up extra shifts at work and am babysitting at least once a week. i go to melbourne in 89 days, yes the countdown has begun, so i need to stop buying makeup and maybe confiscate my card...

my new obsession is bio-oil, it is an oil that can be used to reduce scars and stretch marks but i really like using it as a moisturiser...seeing as i have really dry skin it works really well. normally if i miss a day of moisturising my skin becomes so dry and i don't even know why? maybe because i don't drink enough? hmm i have no idea haha. but anyway at the moment i have the 60ml bottle but there is also the 120ml and the 200ml bottles which are better value...

i think that the bottle isn't as eye catching as other moisturisers but it definitely works better and has a longer lasting result for me :)

more mac...

the venemous villains collection came out online in australia this morning so i had to order some before it sold out! i first up had an order of over $300 but then reduced it down to $134 including postage and handling. I got the maleficent mineralize eyeshadow duos in my dark magic and she who dares, i love these colours and from what i have heard on youtube reviews etc they are really pigmented. i also got carbon which has been released as part of the cruella line.
i will include swatches and pictures when it comes!

studying

so tomorrow is my first exam, which is english...so i have been studying quite a lot - to my parents surprise - and have picked up some study tips which really helped me.

so to start off with you have to have the perfect studying utensils, these will be different for every subject, so for me these include...
coloured highlighters
black, blue and red gel pens (gel pens are way easier to write with in exams)
led pencils
calculator - the big one as well as a small one for easy sums
eraser
white out
and coloured pencils

i find it really difficult to get into study mode so i have been allowing myself to go onto other websites or watch tv after a section of work...for example, i'll work for 1 hour then i'll watch something on youtube or some tv for 15 minutes maximum

also i have bound all my notes for subjects because in some cases, like english, i have 150 pages of notes that i need to study! this is easier if they are in a binder and in order of when they were studied. i then highlight the most important parts of these notes and then get a matching coloured post it note to that highlighter and stick it on the top or the side of the page with the subject that it is covering.

also eat and drink what suits you, i find that i don't snack when i chew gum so chewing gum whilst studying means less distraction and procrastination. and for me i find that digesting milk and other dairy products takes a long time, so i don't eat or drink these right before studying otherwise i won't be focussed.

i'm also not afraid to ask questions, the teacher's job is to teach and so if i don't know something i'm not going to fail that section of the exam, i'll ask my teacher, or my friend if they can explain it better.

i also really like going onto websites to find other methods of teaching the subject, just make sure the website was written by someone who is an expert on the topic and not someone who just has an opinion on it.

so tomorrow i start my first of 10 written exams that finish in under 2 months, i can tell a lot of chewing gum packets are going to be chewed from now until then...
